Coronavirus: Health officials want to trace passengers on easyJet flight

Health officials are looking to trace passengers on an easyJet flight from Geneva to Gatwick after one of the passengers tested positive for the coronavirus.

They want to contact all passengers who were seated in the vicinity of the man on flight EZS8481 from Geneva to London Gatwick on January 28 to ‘provide guidance in line with procedures’.

An easyJet spokesperson said the airline had been made aware of the case last Wednesday.

She said all crew on board have been advised to monitor themselves for a 14-day period.

“Easyjet has been notified by the public health authority that a customer who had recently travelled on one of its flights has since been diagnosed with the coronavirus,” she said.

“As the customer was not experiencing any symptoms, the risk to others on board the flight is very low.

“We remain in contact with the public health authorities and are following their guidance.”

The man took the flight back to the UK after staying in a chalet in the French ski resort of Les Contamines-Montjoie near Mont Blanc.

He had previously visited Singapore on business from January 20 to 23.

He was diagnosed in Brighton and is being treated at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

Four adults and a nine-year-old child who came into contact with him during the ski trip were subsequently diagnosed with the virus. They are not in a serious condition.

On his return to the UK, the Brighton man visited The Grenadier pub in Hove.

A doctor’s surgery in Brighton has now been closed after one of the staff tested positive for the virus.

Patients at County Oak medical centre have been advised to contact the NHS 111 phone service if they have concerns.
