Brits in French ski resort and in Majorca found to have coronavirus

Published on Sunday, February 9, 2020

Five British nationals, including a child, have tested positive for coronavirus in the French Alps, while another Brit in Majorca has the virus.

The four adults and one child were all staying in the same ski chalet in Les Contamines-Montjoie, Savoie, eastern France, a 35-minute drive from Chamonix.

French health minister Agnes Buzyn confirmed an unnamed UK passport holder had ‘recently arrived on a flight from Singapore’ and passed the virus to the other adults and a child.

All are being treated in the Haute-Savoie region and are said to be stable.

The British man who tested positive for coronavirus in Majorca also came into contact with the coronavirus carrier at the same ski chalet.

The man’s wife and two daughters have tested negative for coronavirus.

In the UK itself, there are now four confirmed cases. The number of deaths from coronavirus have now exceeded SARS, at 814 fatalities.

There are 37,595 confirmed cases worldwide, the vast majority in China. Almost 3,000 people who were hospitalised have recovered.
