Planned road closures around Gatwick this week

Published on Monday, October 7, 2019

Travellers are being advised to take extra time getting to and from Gatwick this week as road works are carried out.

The M23 southbound will be closed between Junction 8 at the M25 and Junction 9 Gatwick for five nights, starting tonight, Monday October 7.

The work will result in full closure of the southbound carriageway between 9pm and 5am. The northbound carriageway will be open, though lane closures may cause minor delays.

Traffic will be diverted via the M25 at Junction 6, A22 and A264 to rejoin the M23 at Junction 10. Traffic for Gatwick will then follow the local diversion route via A2011, A23 and Airport Way.

In addition, the eastbound spur road, between South Terminal Roundabout and Junction 9, will be closed for around four hours in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Traffic management will start at 11pm on Tuesday October 8 and the road will close at midnight. It will reopen by 4am.

Work will continue at Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal on Monday to refurbish an arch into the airport.

Further lane closures will be in place throughout the duration of this work, which are likely to lead to delays exiting the airport.
